Mr. Chan – International Financier – brings over 30 years of experience to Petromin in resource acquisitions, international finance and marketing. He has built an impressive network of contacts in Europe, North America and Asia and has established a loyal base of shareholders due to his reputed track record of structuring successful resource companies in the past and present.
In the early 1980s – at the pinnacle of the resource cycle – Mr. Chan and his associates financed and developed key natural resources, raising millions of dollars for companies listed on the public markets namely Pegasus Gold Corp., Galactic Resources, Cornncopia Resources, Geodome Resources, and Glamis Gold Corp.

Professional Highlights:
As the Vice President of Corporate Affairs for Petromin, Mr. Suk plays a vital role in the day-to-day business of the organization, managing the Company’s marketing and shareholder communications program and administering corporate relations and legal affairs. In the past two years, Mr. Suk has successfully graduated Petromin to Tier 1 status on the Toronto Venture Stock Exchange and brought in millions of dollars in capital investment to fund the development of the company’s key domestic petroleum and natural gas interests. He is also responsible for enhancing and raising the public profile of Petromin both on the national and broader international level.
In October 2007, Mr. Suk organized the first ever international Canadian Heavy Oil Contingent at the World Energy and Chemicals Exhibition and Conference in Kuwait – deemed as the largest oil conference in Kuwait to date. The Consortium included Embassy/Government of Alberta, Kudu Industries Inc, SNC-Lavalin, Worley Parsons - Colt Engineering, Regent Energy Group, the Alberta Research Council, Evans Consoles, CANMET, Imperial Oil, Suncor Energy Inc., MEG Energy Corp., the University of Calgary, Aquaguard, and Well Resources Inc. In addition to the exhibition aspects, the Canadian contingent also presented approximately forty percent of the technical papers over the course of the four day event. The strong Canadian presence, combined with an aggressive communication strategy from Petromin and the Embassy, ensured that the Kuwait oil and gas industry recognized Canada’s superior expertise in heavy oil development. Since the event, Petromin has specifically capitalized on its elevated profile, successfully advancing business interests in Kuwait and formalizing a joint venture agreement with United Oil Projects to propose plans to implement CO2 injection for Enhanced Oil Recovery in Kuwait.

Professional Highlights:
Dr. Gunter is one of the preeminent researchers in CO2 geological sequestration, having advanced the science of CO2 sequestration over the past three decades. He has been leading industry goverment financed projects for the past ten years which have been instrumental in educating governments, industry and the research community about this technology and in obtaining recognition from all levels of government of the importance of CO2 sequestration in greenhouse gas reductions.
In 1991, Dr. Gunter, having recognized the potential for Canada to become a leader in CO2 management, focused his research on CO2 storage in deep aquifers in Alberta. His study was one of four ground-breaking studies in the world. Dr. Gunter continued his research, extending the scope of study to include oil reservoirs and coal beds. His research on deep coal beds let to the development of Enhanced Coalbed Methane Recovery (ECBM), which results in the release of methane gas from deep coal seams while storing CO2 in these geological structures. He began similar projects in china and helped develop projects in Japan. As a result of his work, the Alberta Reserch council has been asked to participate in CO2 sequestration projects throughout the world and has made Alberta a leading authority on carbon capture and storage.
Currently, Dr. Gunter is a distinguished scientist, the highest level attainable for a scientist, with the alberta Research Council. He has also served as adjunct professor at the University of Calgary and University of Alberta. Dr. Gunter was lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC) special report on CO2 capture and storage and was a member of the IPCC author group that received the Nobel Prize in 2007.

On Tuesday, October 14, 2008, Petromin (PTR) announced that TerraWest Energy Corp (TWE) had finalized its contractual arrangements with Xinjiang Geologic Engineering Co. Ltd. to commence drilling of two wide diameter wells (1500m and 800m) on TWE’s land in Liuhuanggou area of Xinjiang province, P.R. China. This will be a 45 day drilling program.
The 1500m well offsets a coal coring drillhole and gas desorption location completed in 2006. It is also designed to test for Jurassic-aged coal at 1100m. The 800m offsets another coal coring drillhole and gas desorption location and is also designed to be drilled and cased to the top of the J2x coal and then to run open hole permeability and production flow tests of the 40m plus J2x coal seams.
Four days after finalizing its contractual arrangements, TWE spudded the 800m well. The commencement of the drill program was celebrated with an opening ceremony. PTR’s on-site head engineer, Ryan Adams was given the ceremonial honour of pulling the switch to start the drilling and the well was officially spudded at 11:08am. The opening ceremony ended with fireworks and other traditional Chinese business ceremonies. |
